Songbird! Now with Pretty colours!

As I've said before, I love the Thunderbolts team, so much so that we had to do a Thunderbolts REDUX week to make up for the last one. Thunderbolts was actually one of the few comics I collected religiously from issue 1, and it's definitely the comic I collected the longest. From the Busiek/Bagley era, to the Ellis/Deodato run all the way up to my personal favourite run by Jeff Parker, Kev Walker & Ireland's own Declan Shalvey. I've grown up with these characters so this week was a big deal for me. Songbird was the obvious choice because she's one of the original members back when the T'Bolts were villains posing as heroes. But she quickly got the hero bug and went legit and it's a crime that she has yet to make it to Avengers status. Soon though Melissa will get bumped up to the big leagues and Songbird fans like myself everywhere will rejoice.

And in all seriousness if you haven't checked out Jeff Parker's run on T'Bolts yet then get on that shit because that's the run that brought me back into the world of comics.

I also want to thank Jordie Bellaire and Neil Delaney for giving me some much needed tips on colouring. I normally suck at that sort of stuff but I'm really happy with how this turned out.

I've never hidden the fact that I find Watchmen over-rated, I've just never seen the appeal. In saying that I do love Jeffrey Dean Morgan so The Comedian was the obvious choice for me. Now before I start ranting I'll just leave you with a Comedian quote -

There's not enough love for Johnny Cage. Everyone is obsessed with Scorpion, Sub Zero, Raiden, etc and yet Johnny C barely gets a word in. I truly hope this will change in the future otherwise you might get CAGED!

"I am disgusted... You have zero potential!" ....Gee thanks Akuma

I've always thought Akuma was the coolest looking character from the Street Fighter series, ever since the first time I stumbled upon his secret boss fight in Street Fighter II Turbo and thought I somehow broke the game. Akuma is a dick to fight against, a bastard to learn how to use properly but once you do he'll quickly become your favourite Street Fighter character too. Plus he's just an all round badass.

Avengers Assemble!! But be quiet about it.

After a long absence of a Nerd Invasion post we're back with Secret Avengers week. The Secret Avengers were one of the best things to come out of the Heroic Age written by Ed Brubaker and drawn by Mike Deodato. Over it's 3 year stint so far it's hosted 3 of my all time favourite Marvel characters in the squad: Nova, Hawkeye & Agent Phil Coulson. A great book and I'm so glad we got around to drawing some of these amazing characters.

It's Morphin' Time!!

Tommy was the best Ranger and anyone that says otherwise is either a liar or delusional. He's so awesome the show keeps bringing him back over and over again. But none of his other appearances will ever top his original appearances as the Green Ranger (White after Season 2) in the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. He started out a villain who quickly became an important member of the team (you'll come to learn that's my bread and butter in the fictional world). He was such an important member of the team that he absolutely carried, CARRIED I TELL YOU, the rest of the Rangers in the movie. In saying that what's a Ranger without his own Zord and the Green Ranger was no exception with his badass Dragonzord, who just happened to be really into flutes, like REALLY into flutes. But I digress, Green (or White) Ranger > all other Rangers. Rant over.

Now with added lightning, because lightning is awesome and so is the Green Ranger! (Have I stressed that enough?)

Misery, Misery, Miser , that's what you've chosen. I offered you friendship and you spat in my face.

Green Goblin, Norman Osborn, the greatest spite against Peter Parker's life. While some consider him Spider-Man's greatest villain (I personal consider Doc Ock to be Pete's greatest enemy but I digress) he's definitely the most fun to draw. Plus we needed a villain other than Venom to show up this week. A coloured version will be uploaded at a later date because I know that colour will make this guy seem all the more sinister. 

Place Keeper

 My actual piece for this week is taking a little longer to get right than I thought it would so here's a shitty 10 minute Green Goblin sketch to hold my place for me so I still haven't technically missed my deadline. Expect a much better picture to take this place later in the week.

Crash Bash

Crash MuthaFuckin' Bandicoot!! With added Polar. 

Crash was one of the first games I ever got for my PS1 that I paid for myself as a kid so Naughty Dog will always hold a soft spot in my heart. So many hours of my childhood spent trying to get those goddamn gems in Crash 2, the best of the series in my opinion. The Polar levels were always the ones I went back to to replay over and over again, hence why he was a necessary addition to this piece. :)

A Smart Post Name Eludes Me: Gimli

Update with added clarity

As dark as Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings was you could always rely on Gimli to bring some comic humour to the franchise. John Rhys-Davies portrayal was one of the most underrated things in the franchise as it was always compared to Viggo Mortensen's Aragorn.
